How I Got $400 Back from Costco
Intro: Why I Built This
I've been a long-time Costco member and even worked there, both in the warehouse and later at the corporate office as a software engineer. I'm a big fan. Plus, I have three boys, so we go through a lot of food and toilet paper ๐
But like many Costco members, I wasn't taking advantage of their 30-day price adjustment policy.
If something you buy at Costco goes on sale within 30 days, you can claim the difference. One Christmas, I bought three electric scooters for my kids. The next week, they dropped by $99 each. I went back and got $300 cash back.
That moment made me realize how much I might be missing.
The Problem: Missing Price Adjustments Without Realizing It
Between scooters, food, and random impulse buys (you know the ones), it adds up fast. But checking prices every week? Manually comparing receipts? I've got three kids and no time for that.
So I built a tool to do it for me.
The Solution: A Simple App That Tracks Receipts and Finds Cash
- Upload your Costco receipts โ You can download them from your Costco.com account.
- The app checks the monthly coupon book for instant savings and compares them to your receipts.
- You get an email if there's money to collect โ Just head to the returns counter and claim your refund.
So far, I've saved over $300 on electric scooters and another $100 or so on other items.
How This Can Save You Money Too
I originally built this tool as a fun night and weekend project, but quickly realized others could benefit. If you're a regular Costco shopper, there's a good chance you're missing out on cash back without even knowing it.
It's a simple way to upload receipts, let the app do the tracking, and get notified when Costco owes you money.
Try It Free
The app is free to use. If it saves you money, hit the 'buy me a hotdog ๐ญ' button to help keep it running.
Give it a try and let me know how much you save!
